Technical / installing RealTracker in your website

How does RealTracker work?
RealTracker works with a piece of code in the source of your website. When your webpage is loaded in a browser, our code is loaded too and that's how we can track your visitors. When you include our code in all your pages, we are able to give you accurate details about click behaviour.

How do I implement RealTracker in my website?
After log-in, please click "counters", then "New counter" and follow further steps. RealTracker now will give you a code, You have to place this code between the <body> and </body> tag in the HTML source of your website, preferably directly after the <body> -tag.

There is no (correct) measurement
Our code should be litterally copied into your website. Try to copy-paste the code again and make sure that the code is exactly the same as the original code provided by RealTracker.

My website contains 100 pages, do I have to copy-paste 100 diffrent codes?
No, in the menu "Counters", then "New counter" you can select "Method 2" or "Method 3". When using method 2 or 3 RealTracker can recognize the diffrent pages for you. All you have to do is include this unique code in all your pages.

I have a dynamic website, can I also track parameters or values in the URL -string
Yes that is possible for ASP and PHP websites. You can even generate a pagename from your database.
Contact us for the technical explanation.

My website generates this error: "Stack overflow at line..."
This happens when our code is put twice in a webpage. Please make sure that our code is no more than one time in a HTML-document.

My website contains frames, where do I place the RealTracker code?
Do not put our code in the frameset-page, the code will not work correctly then. Always put our code in a page within your frameset. The best place is to put our code in the part where your content is. This is often te biggest page in your frameset, wich will refresh when you navigate through the website. If you are in doubt, please send us an
email, we will look at your website and give you an advise.

Pageviews, visitors and unique visitors?
In your RealTracker account we separate:

Pageviews:
This is the number of times your pages were requested, including reloads and backward navigations.

Visits:
This is the number of visits (somtimes called: sessions) on your website. If I visit your website today, I can generate 10 pageviews. But I did only one visit.

Unique visitors:
This is the number of unique visitors on your website. If I visit your website this morning and this afternoon, I did two visits. But I'm still one unique visitor.

How do you recognize unique and returing visitors?
Other webanalytics software only look at IP-number and/ or use a cookie. RealTracker does more. Besides IP-number and cookie we compare 15 other variables. This makes visitor recognition extremely accurate!

I don't want to measure the visits I do to my own website
That's possible. Go to "Settings", then "Filter IP Adress" and add your IP number here. From now you will be excluded from measurement.

About logfile statistics

What are logfile statistics?
Web servers are recording all their transactions in a logfile. Programs can read this logfile and translate this data to statistics about the popularity of the website. The pageviews and visits are commonly displayed metrics, but are considered rather unsophisticated measurements.
The use of web caches also presents a problem for logfile analysis. If a person revisits a page, the second request will often be retrieved from the browser's cache, and so no request will be received by the web server. This means that the person's path through the site is lost.
Logfiles are primarily designed to provide data about the webserver's transactions and load, this information is useful for the server administrator for security- and capacity reasons.

What is the diffrence between logfile statistics and RealTracker?
Logfile stats are based on the movements on the webserver. RealTracker runs on our server is can be activated with a script in your webpage. We do not measure the movements on your server, we measure the movements of your visitors!
RealTracker will provide you with accurate and easy to understand real-time reports. Yo don't need any technical background to understand your RealTracker statistics!
